3 Sisters – Day 2
Temps overnight were in the mid 50s, and everyone slept pretty well. We were up between 5:30 and 6 this AM and fed, packed, and on the trail by 7:15.

We rejoined the lakeside trail around the north side of the lake then left the lake on a connector trail over to the Pacific Crest Trail. All of our walking today was through forest. Judging from the size of the trees it is second growth. Unfortunately, many of these trees are sick and show it by having moss growing all over them. Although some trees look healthy, the overall look of these forests is one of decline from Climate Change.

Once on the PCT we continued our slow but steady climb. The trail took us by a surprising number of lakes some several hundred yards wide and others less than 70. Nothing near as large as Mink, but some very lovely lakes, nonetheless.

We pulled up to a small pair of lakes about lunchtime and had a meal there in the breeze where the mosquitoes weren’t too bad. Later, passing a spring we filled up with water, worried that our proposed campsite for tonight might be dry. A mile later we crossed as nice stream running next to some great campsites and settled in for the night.

Since it was only about 1PM, we took naps and cleaned up a little. A little exploration of the nearby forest revealed a large meadow just below our camping area. And the wind has come up from almost nothing to a nice breeze, offering a bit of cooling.
As usual, dinner on a log was a fun and relaxing event. We laughed and ate together in genial company.

Now teeth are brushed, the food is hung away from the bears, and we are adjourning to our various shelters for the night as quiet descends on the forest.
Until tomorrow, safe travels and happy trails…

Killer pics of Mink Lake and the sun’s rays. I aspire to take such photos! The temps are enticing.
Jim, Thanks for the kind words. We were hoping for temps in the 70s, but got 10° hotter. Still, that made the cool forest that much nicer.????
