C&O- Day 0
This morning, over breakfast at a bagel place, Will suggested a bike trip to downtown DC and then maybe out to Rock Creek Park. So after our meal we mounted up and pedaled off for downtown. Being Sunday, there was little traffic and we zoomed along on virtually empty streets. We passed by DuPont Circle and along a series of embassies headed for Rock Creek. The embassy buildings reflected their countries. From South Africa’s modest one to Great Britain’s large complex, you could see their prominence on the world stage in their size and style of building.

Reaching Rock Creek, we left the world stage for a wilderness in the heart of the city. Lots of people enjoying the nice weather and the woods along the clear waters of the creek. Former roads through the park have been blocked to auto traffic and so carry only bikes and pedestrians making for a pleasant ride.

Weaving our way out of the park we eventually ended up at the Lincoln Memorial and proceeded up along the Mall toward the Capitol Building. About a zillion people walking on the Mall and enjoying the 70 degree gorgeous weather. Just beyond the Capital we stopped for a burger. Then we rode a few blocks more and were back at Will and Sinclair’s place. It was 3PM.

I went over and checked into my new AirB&B for the next 4 days, got a shower, and took a short nap. Then it was out to dinner with Will and Sinclair for my 75th birthday. It was a pleasant feast with good company and then we walked across the street to an ice cream parlor. We topped off the celebration with a cone and a nice walk through their neighborhood as twilight replaced the sun. Overall, a wonderful day.
Until tomorrow, Happy Trails…

Want to wish you a very blessed birthday greeting. Stay safe on the trails and enjoy your time with you son.
Clarissa,
So good to here from you and thank you for your kind words and thoughts. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Happy Birthday! 70F, a cone, and a son you like doing things with. Quite a 75th!
Totally agree. It was a great B-day!
