SF2T- Post Script-1

As you may now know, I got off trail due to some heart palpitations and an episode of irregular pulse. I thought it unwise to continue solo as Cappuccino was leaving the hike to prepare for a family trip. So I got off with her. I have had no further symptoms and have been seen in Urgent Care and then yesterday by a cardiologist.

Each visit entailed an EKG, and both were basically normal. Dr. Sanger, the cardiologist, admitted I was a dilemma. He agreed that I was in great shape, especially for my age, and I had no ischemic symptoms that would indicate a heart attack. With only a single episode of undocumented “irregular pulse.” It was impossible for him to diagnose what was going on. He felt a single episode almost two weeks before he saw me, without any further problems, would make a continuous monitor (Holter) unlikely to be of much value. He ordered an echocardiogram since it had been 4 years since the last one. He recommended I get a mobile 6-lead EKG device that can connect to my phone so if this happened again, we can capture it. He also suggested I get a coronary calcium test to check my heart for any possible obstructed heart arteries. I will follow up as indicated by any of the test reports.

My normal rhythm EKG

So I have a Coronary Calcium test set up for July 8th. I am waiting for a call from the echocardiogram folks, and I am sending off for my own mobile EKG. I still remain symptom-free at this point and am planning full resumption of my normal activity.
