Mark’s Photos #15

It was a cool morning in February 2024 as I walked down the mountain toward the trailhead after a night camping in an old-growth forest. The blue sky of the morning was being swallowed by a fog that was getting thicker by the minute. It lurked in the forest all around me, but the sun was trying its best to make its way through. I pulled the zipper of my coat up a little higher and my stocking cap down a little lower as I descended. The farther down the mountain I got, the colder the temperature. This always seems counterintuitive, but cold air sinks, so it makes sense. The trail took a turn, and as I came around a corner, this scene caught my eye. Shafts of sun radiating through the fog along with the colors gave the forest a kaleidoscope look. Like so many things, it was there for a few moments and then a shift in the fog or the sun, and it was gone.
