Mark’s Photos #1
My friend Dan was the impetus for Sunday’s blog about Thru-hiker Slang. It was fun to write and I appreciate his unintentional writing prompt. Dan has his own blog, over60hiker.wordpress.com, which is about his adventures and other things he is interested in or that are on his mind. One feature I like is “Dan’s Images” and I have decided to create my own version here. I plan to regularly post a picture or two that I’ve taken either recently or in the past. If the image has a story I will write a paragraph about it. One or two photos and a brief text, and that will be the post. It will not necessarily be related to my longer weekly post about my upcoming adventures. I think I will post a photo more or less weekly. Anyway, that’s the plan.
Here is the first:

Struggling along the shoulder of 12,507 foot Pecos Baldy Mountain, in New Mexico, we came over a rise and encountered a few bighorn sheep. They were grazing on the alpine tundra and seemed unperturbed by our sudden appearance. This particular one climbed to the top of a small rise. He positioning himself broadside toward the camera and then finally turned his head to look at me completing the pose. A perfect silhouette against a dramatic sky. I’ve included another photo of a couple more sheep below, that allowed us to get pretty close.

This picture is stunning. I love it !!
Thanks Sue! What was really stunning was the way that sheep saw us, walked to the top of the prominence, and literally positioned himself perfectly before turning his head and looking at me. Like he knew this was gonna be a great picture.😁
Beautiful! and I love your companions in the picture
It is always a privilege to hang out with charismatic mega fauna.😁👍
I am honored. I can post an image of, say, a waterfall, from a hike that I won’t post for weeks since I post my hikes once a week on Saturdays.
Ahh! I wondered how you did your posting. Anyway, I liked your idea, so in the great old American tradition, I stole it.
“One or two photos and a brief text, and that will be the post. It will not necessarily be related to my longer weekly post about my upcoming adventures. I think I will post a photo more or less weekly. Anyway, that’s the plan.” That sounds like an excellent plan! Stunning photo, especially that you had the patience to wait for said bighorn sheep. I believe when people see “Dan’s Image” they know the entry will be short, they can click immediately. They don’t have to wait as they might when they have enough to read a full blog.
Well, I have a dozen years of thru-hiking photos and thousands of stories, so I figured I could figure out a few worthy short posts from that. We will see.
