C&O- Day- minus 2

10:35AM- On the bus to Portland, about a 3 hr trip. So I’m underway. However, lots happening on the C&O which may jeopardize all or part of this trip. Heavy rains over the last week have inundated and washed away large parts of the trail. What hasn’t been washed away may have massive debris piles that make it impassable. This is an evolving situation and there is more rain in the forecast. As a side note the NPS has done 5 rescues on the trail and one kayaker listed as missing.

2:00PM- Arrived at Portland’s Union Station, summoned an Uber, and am presently on my way to the Portland airport. It is only 7 miles from here, but Google thought it would take 3 hours to walk it, so I opted for ride share.

Portland Union Station

2:47PM- Arrived at the airport at 2:30. So 30 min. To drive 7 miles. Most of that was on bumper to bumper freeway, and I will remind you it is 2 in the afternoon here. LA? Yeah. Boston? Sure. Chicago? Of course. But Portland? Anyway, I made it through security and was lucky enough to be randomly pick for extra inspection. The somewhat bored TSA agent continued to be bored with me and, after a brief look at my electronics, sent me off into the terminal where lunch was waiting.

Leaving Portland

6:39PM- On the plane to Phoenix. This flight is running about an hour late, but I have a long layover in Phoenix before I catch my DC flight just before midnight. So, should be no problem making that flight.

Our plane awaits

11:20PM- On the flight to DC. Flight time is 4 hours and 12 minutes. I get into Reagan at 6:25AM tomorrow, local time. As you can tell, I’m fading. Now, I’m going to try and get some shuteye. Good night!

Until tomorrow, Happy Trails…

That first picture and this sentence “As a side note the NPS has done 5 rescues on the trail and one kayaker listed as missing.” make your trip seem daunting. Life is Plan B and C and we all hope to learn what you learn on this journey.
