On To Bandon
Last night, as I looked through what I had to do today, I realized that I needed to get around Five Mile Point at low tide. It was close to 14 miles south of me and low tide is at 9:45. Oh, and I would have to hike over the Seven Devils Rd that crosses Cape Arago. Well after doing the math, it turned out I need to leave about 5:15AM. So much for sleeping in.
I got down to the convenience store on the highway and bought a frozen bacon, egg, and, cheese burrito for breakfast and went back to the motel and turned in.
Up at 4:45 and made some motel room coffee and nuked the burrito, which all things considered wasn’t bad. I left right at 5:15 and headed up Seven Devils Rd. in the fog in the dark. I had my headlamp and hooked my bike flasher to my pack. There was no traffic, so not much of an issue.
I finished the 12.5 miles of road at just after 9AM. And got to the beach only to encounter Tom and Angie, who I met at the Hiker Camp on the second day. Dave, who is also thru-hiking the OCT, was there, too. We were all in position to get around Five Mile Point at low tide. A mile and a half walk down the beach and the water was obligingly low enough to get through. From there on it was about 5 miles to Bullard Beach SP where we are all camped tonight. The park is just north of the town of Bandon.
Tomorrow will involve a low tide ford and long miles with a stealth camp at the end.. but that is tomorrow.
Happy Trails…
Hey JR, we missed you, but you may have dodged a bullet. It was amazing, even extraordinary, but really really…
