Humbug
This morning Nancy, Sara, and I walked over to the Dockside Cafe and had classic sausage, eggs, and hash browns with coffee breakfast. Then Sara and I bid Nancy farewell and headed off down the Battle Rock Beach toward Humbug Mtn.

Another cool bright morning, Cappuccino and I ambled along enjoying the light breeze. We crossed Hubbard Creek on stepping stones after about a mile then left the beach for the road a mile after that. This was just as the sand stopped and beach turned to rocky rubble.
Up on 101 the shoulder was wide. We were moving along with the normal traffic going by when a lead car for a “Wide Load” passed by us and honked. We looked back and a truck pulling a house was about 200 yards away and closing. His load was taking up the whole shoulder. Fortunately, no one was coming the other way, so we ran across in front of him and over to the far side of the road. We made it just a few seconds before Mr. Wide Load came blowing by. Had we stayed we would have been hit. Shaken, we decided to stay on the far side for the next mile until we left the highway for the old road.

The old 101 was more of a trail now with vines and brush crowding it’s edges. It wound through the forest away from the ocean and then there was a locked gate barring all but foot traffic. Cappuccino and I continue on, winding our way down to the Humbug SP a couple more miles ahead.

We found the Hiker/Biker camp and had our pick as it was only about 12:30. We managed to tuck two hammocks into one site, although it took some ingenuity. After having lunch, we explored the first part of the trail for tomorrow, thought about climbing nearby Humbug Mountain soaring 1,700 feet above us, then decided not to ascend. We planned to rest for a long road walk and a possible exciting beach walk tomorrow.
Isaac! Thanks so much for leaving a comment on my blog. It was such a pleasure talking with you, and…
