Fifth Day
Cappuccino and I rolled out of our hammocks about 6:30 and we’re on the trail by 6:50. We had decided to beeline for the car and have a little breakfast when we got there. It was just two miles.
The trail was marginally discernible through all the brush and the deadfall. There were several large logs and logjams to climb over and a couple tiny streams to negotiate. Since there was clear sky, and there had been no rain, at least we didn’t get car washed today.
The only real stream we had to cross was Bull Creek and it turned out to be pretty easy. After 2 miles we walked into the trailhead parking lot. The car was still there unharmed. We fixed a little coffee, had a breakfast bar, and then we were off. I coax the Prius back out on the double track and onto the paved forest service road. We were back in Eugene a little after 10.
Showers are done, clothes are in the washing machine, and we went out and got a late breakfast at a local pancake house to celebrate. All in all a great trip!
As I usually do, I will review the trip in a final blog on Sunday. So, revisit this space then.
Until Sunday, Happy Trails!
Mark, you do know how to live the good life! Great that you have a hiking companion in Cap! Hammocks! I forgot you sleep in hammocks! Brilliant. Hiking with barely discernible trails makes you a better man than me! I like a clear and obvious path. And finally, thanks for taking me a long on your hikes. Your photography is exceptional. I “take” trips I will never take in person. And that you celebrate with pancakes! Like I said, well done, my friend.
Thanks Dan! I really appreciate your comments on these blogs. To quote another thru-hiker I know, “I hike the long trails so you don’t have to.” :^)
Amen!
