2025 Plans

Well, my good intentions of posting a blog before the end of last year was for naught. But I have finally hatched a plan for this year, tentative as it may be, so I thought I’d post an update on a possible itinerary for this year.

Fall Collage

As of today I am planning on doing the Ouachita Trail in Arkansas the last week in March and first week in April. At 225 miles, it’s roughly the same distance as the Ozark Highlands Trail I attempted last year. I have yet to research it in detail, but it appears to have a few river crossings than the OHT. However it also has less water available, so that’s a concern. Anyway, I’ll figure out whether I’m gonna do that or not shortly.

Second up, is a bike trip with my son along the C&O Canal Towpath outside of Washington DC. At 185 miles we think we can do it in five days. For that one we have AirB&Bs set up along the way, making for a more posh trip. That one is scheduled for the last part of May.

Then, sometime in July or August I want to do a couple of Oregon hikes. Maybe another short trip along the Oregon coast and possibly the Timberline Trail up by Mount Hood. Either or both of these trails will probably only be five day trips somewhere between 35 and 50 miles.

I would also like to do the Wallowa River Loop in north eastern Oregon. That one will probably be in August sometime.

Climbing to the North Rim in 2017

Then, if we can get permits, Cappuccino, and I and possibly Jolly Rancher, would like to try a rim to rim of the Grand Canyon. That would be an early October

And finally, probably in the last half of October, a more extensive trip into the Gila wilderness. Trying to get into areas that I’ve never been in along the middle Fork.

As you can see, I’m looking at a hodgepodge of shorter hikes in a lot of different places. This is very much like I did in 2024.

I have a trip planned for the end of next week to Southern California to visit friends and family, but I will return to the space with further updates three weeks from now.

Does the bike ride with your son along the C&O Canal Towpath take you to Harper’s Ferry, WV and then on to Pittsburgh? Your BnB stops sound right up Dan and Hannah’s alley. Look forward to seeing you when you come north of LA!
