C&O- Day 3

The rain was coming down in sheets as I made my way the few blocks over to Will & Sinclair’s from my AirB&B. I didn’t much mind since I had my rain gear on and an umbrella I had borrowed from Will last night. The dismal overcast skies gave every indication that this was going to be the weather for the day.

Undaunted, Will and I headed toward the Capitol then down to the Mall in search of a coffee place. It was a little after 9 and the Smithsonian Museums open a 10. Just enough time for a little breakfast. We located a cafe near the Canadian embassy and had a quick bite then moved on to the Museum of American History.

The rain continued as we stood outside in a massive line of school kids entering the museum. We eventually got inside and then spent a couple hours looking at all the displays. Dorothy’s ruby slippers, Lincoln’s top hat, Mr. Roger’s shoes, the Old Glory flag of Star Spangled Banner fame, displays on the presidents, displays on American culture, displays on how much immigrants have added to and enriched this country, and much more.

We finally left about noon and wandered over to the Natural History Museum. We took in some dinosaurs, mammals, human evolution, climate change, rocks and minerals, and finished off with the Hope Diamond. Then it was off to find lunch at Eastern Market before returning to Will’s place.

I went back to my AirB&B and took a short nap while Will did some errands. We reconvened at 6 and walked over to Roost to grab dinner and then to an ice cream place for dessert, of course.

Until tomorrow, Happy Trails…

You start and end your day in style. Coffee out and ice cream to tie a bow on your day. Your rain is coming to New England in sheets. Hope it’s sunshine in the nation’s capital.
